Jimmy Robinson Rolls to Modified Mayhem Win at Richmond Raceway

 

Richmond, KY(July 9, 2016) Richmond Raceway would present the track’s annual Modified Mayhem event on Saturday evening for the Phantom Racing Gear Modified division and Jimmy Robinson of Richmond, KY would pick up the win in the $1,500 to win event.  Other feature event winners for the evening included Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY in Sonic Late Models, Jeremie Bretz of Maysville, KY in AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks, Dylan Stevens of Morehead, KY in Pro-Tow Towing Stock Four Cylinders, and Dylan Rutherford of Corbin, KY in Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclones.

Blake Brown and Jimmy Robinson would race side-by-side for the lead on the opening circuit of the Modified Mayhem event for the Phantom Racing Gear Modifieds with Robinson finally securing the top spot on lap 2.  Heavy rains on Friday afternoon made for choppy track surface conditions and several cautions would wave during the course of the 25 lap contest, but when all was finished, Robinson had scored his first victory of the season in the division aboard the Amy Courtwright owned Be-Cool Window Tinting/Vapor Stix/CSI Heating and Cooling/Roe Conner Construction/Justin’s Special Touch Car Care/Courtwright Motorsports/AutoZone sponsored #54 Harris Race Car sporting a Bullock Race Engine.  Aaron Branham would outduel Jimmy Lennex, Jr. for the runner-up position, while Keith Smith would nip Dennis Roberson in a photo-finish for fourth.  The remainder of the top ten were David Adams, Blake Brown (who went to the rear of field on lap 10), Jimmy Crabtree (after restarting at the rear of the field with a flat right-front tire on lap 3), Cody Smith, and Ricky Brandenburg.  Twenty-six entries would see Brown as top qualifier at 16.630 seconds and win a heat, while Robinson and Branham were also heat race winners.  Keith Denny would win the B-Main.

Tommy Bailey would lead the opening lap of the 25 lap Sonic Late Model main event, only to suffer mechanical problems on lap 2 and hand the lead over to Justin Rattliff.  Following a trio of cautions, Rattliff would pull away  a bit before a pair of late-race cautions would bring the field back together.  However, Rattliff would be the top performer of the night and score his second win of the season at the track behind the wheel of the   James Rattliff owned MGL Auto Sales/JRR Auto Sales/On Time Courier/Pro-Tech Metal Fabrication/Rodgers Construction/Wave Length Hair Salon/B&B Motorsports/Budda Bert Transmissions/Xtreme Graphics/PPM/Hoosier Tire/Joe Gibbs Driven Oil/Wiles Driveshafts/Butlerbuilt/Team Petersen/Arizona Sport Shorts/GottaRace.com/Team AFCO/QuarterMaster/Wayne Bowen Racing Supply/Simpson sponsored #16 Club 29, Cornett Race Engines powered entry.  Todd Coffman would finish in second, while Tripp Gerrald would complete the podium positions with a third place finish.  The rest of the top five would be Johnny Wheeler and 14th place starting Jason Barrett.  Gary Yeager would head up the second five at the finish of the race, trailed by Chris Ruble, Donnie Everman, Brian Royalty, and Jerry Rutherford.  Fifteen entries would see Bailey as top qualifier at 15.213 seconds and win a heat, while Rattliff would win the other heat.

Jeremie Bretz and Robby Perkins would swap the lead four times in the opening eight laps of the 15 lap AR Bodies KDRA Super Stock feature event before Bretz would snag the race lead a survive a late-race caution with two laps remaining to capture his second straight feature win in the division in the seat of his Doug’s Glass and Glazing/Hazel’s Knotty Pine/The Glenny Glass Company/Swartz Enterprises/Palmer Equipment sponsored #14 machine.  Perkins would outlast Eddie Stewart to claim the second position, while Logan Preston and Jeremy Howard finished fourth and fifth.  Completing the top ten were Faron Robinson, Terry Cheeks, Chad Barrett, Martin Stacey, and John Hall.  Seventeen entries entries would see Stewart as top qualifier at 16.828 seconds, while heat race victories fell to Bretz and Perkins.

Dylan Stevens would lead all 12 laps of the Pro-Tow Towing Stock Four Cylinder contest and take his first win of the season at the track in the Marty Stevens owned Eagle Finance/Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival/Lee’s Used Cars/Yasmin’s Hookah Bar sponsored #7x Ford Mustang.  Shane Irvin, Charles Burton, Sean Jones, and Keith Gipson would complete the top five.  Rounding out the top ten were Ashley Logan, Randy Spivey, Jamison Gipson, Stacy Harrison, and Brandon Creech.  Thirteen entries would have Jones as top qualifier at 18.899 seconds and win a heat, while Stevens won the other heat.

The Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclone feature event would see 14 year old Dylan Rutherford lead the entire way to score his first career victory in the division in the seat of the Deborah Rutherford owned Dependable Auto Sales/The Tint Shop sponsored #14 MMI Chassis.  Bobby Williams and Glenn Dickerson completed the finishing order.  Rutherford would be the top qualifier at 22.302 seconds and also win the heat.
