Richmond Raceway Issues Technical Bulletin Concerning Modified Tires

Richmond, KY (April 09, 2015) Richmond Raceway co-promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz would like to make a rule clarification concerning the siping and grooving of tire for competitors in the track’s Modified division.

While Richmond Raceway is not a UMP DirtCar sanctioned track, the track will be following the UMP DirtCar Modified rules for the 2015 season from the standpoint of body rules and the siping/grooving of tires and the 2,400 lb. minimum weight rule. Per the UMP DirtCar rule concerning tires for Modifieds on page 64 of the 2015 rulebook, under section 15.8, letter C, the following rule will apply: Siping of tires will be permitted. Grooving of rear tires will not be permitted after June 1, 2015. Grooving of front tires will not be permitted after December 31, 2015. Recapping of an approved tire is not permitted.

With this said, Richmond Raceway will allow drivers to use tires that are siped and grooved up until the June 1, 2015 cutoff date. After that date, the grooving of tires (front and rear) will not be allowed at Richmond Raceway, only siping will be permitted. The track will do this to allow drivers to use tires that they already have that may already be grooved and siped. Richmond Raceway will allow drivers to utilize the following tire compounds: Hoosier A40, A40S, or H40; American Racer Hard and Extra Hard. Also, per UMP DirtCar rules, Modifieds cannot race with a spoiler on the race car in 2015.

Richmond Raceway will open the 2015 season with "The Dawn of a New Era" season opener on Saturday April 11 with a full racing program featuring Super Late Models ($1,200 to win), Modifieds ($800 to win), Pro Late Models ($600 to win), KDRA Super Stocks ($500 to win), Four Cylinders ($300 to win), and Mini-Cup/Cyclones ($100 to win).
